CandyStore, The Mission
If you love smaller, independent labels, you really will be like a kid in a candy store here. This excellent little boutique carries both new and vintage items — for you and your home.
Scan the racks for beautiful dresses and tops by Saja, cool t-shirts by She-Bible, or patterned skirts and shirts by Talla (one of my favorite local designers). Handbags and jewelry are also stocked here.
In the housewares department, the brightly colored Buddha figurines and Diana Fayt ceramics caught my eye. The latter, a San Francisco-based artist, makes gorgeous bowls, vases and plates; CandyStore carries a good selection of her pieces. If you’re picking up a gift for someone, be sure to check out the lovely letterpress cards.
Oh, and in case you were wondering: Yes, you actually can buy candy here — making it a truly sweet spot in the Mission.
