Doe has been aptly described by its owner, Kati Kim, as a “mini-department store.” Don’t let its small size fool you — there really is a little bit of everything here.
Near the entrance is a rack that carries hip publications such as ReadyMade and Wallpaper. There’s a small fridge filled with mineral waters from the UK. Handmade greeting cards, vases, planters and picture frames also mingle in the front of the store. Baby items have a home here, as do bath products.
On the clothing racks and shelves, you’ll find the likes of Woo, Mon Petit Oiseau, Kasil denim, Petro Zillia and Jill Stuart. Doe also carries a number of local designers, including Sunhee Moon and Penelope Starr. You can complete your outfit with a Dutchy or Mona Milkface handbag. And why not show some California love: Pick up a Maya Brenner pendant that features an outline of the state ($56 in silver, $150 in gold).
Although there aren’t too many other chic boutiques in the Lower Haight, Doe is reason enough for me to make the trip to this neighborhood. It’s even worth the hassle of finding parking … And that’s saying something!
