Continental Midtown
I’m honestly not a Stephen Starr groupie (well maybe a little), but I must admit, the man has done it again. The original Continental restaurant is still one of my favorites, but the newer Midtown version brings a whole new energy.
The menu and vibe is similar, but there’s purely more fun to be had. Visually, the new space is remarkable. It’s multilevel and there is something innovative to admire every place you look. Along with outdoor street-side tables, there are two interior floors and a plush roof deck. Choose to sit in comfy turquoise car booths or wicker chairs that suspend from the ceiling, there are even vibrant animal seats in the upstairs lounge. Colorful globe lights seem to burst from above and cool lounge or sometimes 80’s music fills the air. The noise and movement of the patrons just adds to the vibrancy of this restaurant. Waiters are casual in striped shirts, always friendly and laidback. It’s an interesting and modern, yet relaxing place to dine.
Continental is best known as a martini bar, so be sure to try one of the many flavors they offer. The food won’t disappoint either and there’s something on the menu for everyone. Personally, I can’t stop ordering the crispy calamari salad (with feta on the side) and crispy shoestring fries; they’re both just too delicious! Best of all, their prices are very reasonable and portions are generous enough to share. It’s also a terrific spot for brunch, always an enjoyable and relaxing way to ease into the day.
Continental Midtown provides a unique dining experience in the city, a casual, yet entertaining restaurant, with visuals, drinks and cuisine that are pleasing to all five senses. Spot the big olive out front and you’ll know you’re there.
Tip: You’ll realize this quickly on your own, but the bathroom mirrors are actually 2-ways, so stick to washing your hands and applying a quick coat of lip-gloss, as you never know who’s watching from the other side!
