Shabby Chic

I’m the kind of girl who likes a simple home that’s both elegant and casual, cosy yet uncluttered. I adore soothing palettes of colour, fluffy pillows and bedding that has me sleeping before I can say “L.A.” So when I entered Shabby Chic’s main store on Montana, it was as though the mother ship was calling me home.

Rachel Ashwell has built an empire on the same principles, selling her ideas, lifestyle and fabulous products through her stores. I purchased a whole bed set – sheets, duvet, duvet cover, and Euro and king pillows. I’ve had my Frette linens, I’ve had Four Seasons bedding but nothing compares to the inviting colours, the soft crispiness of poplin and fluffiness of Shabby Chic – even if the set-up could send you on a first class ticket to Paris (although the oh so fluffy and perfectly proportioned Euro pillows are a steal at $20!).

Her flagship store in Santa Monica combines antique finds with her bedding and slip-covered sofas. If you’re not willing to go full shabby just yet, pick up a pretty little matchbox set for $5 or some napkins for $10. Just leave the boys at home for this one – they won’t get it until they’re sleeping in it or lounging on the couch with one of the pretty throws.
