Anam Cara- Brookline

In the Celtic tradition, the term “Anam Cara” refers to the way two souls blend to form a deep bond or “soul friend”. When you walk into Anam Cara in Brookline, you realize that you aren’t in a typical Irish pub and that the owners must have had this concept in mind when naming it. The decorations are chic and whimsical with amber tones and candlelight dominating. This is certainly a place where you can take your sweetheart or a group of really good friends.
And I must mention the beer, which is a highlight. They have one of the best selections of Belgian beer in Boston, with many of them on tap. You can order a sampler tray or try them in the full sizes. They also have some German beers and a good selection of micro brews.
They also have a classy menu. Their fries are hand-cut and easily amongst the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant. I am a big fan of their Unclassic Caesar salad with roasted garlic and parmesan shavings and their Warm Asparagus Salad. The burgers are also simple and tasty and served with a big helping of those fries.
Seats are at a premium because it is always busy, especially on days when the Red Sox are playing at home. It’s close enough to Fenway Park to see some after-game revelers and is also close to Boston University so it sees a college crowd when school is in session. They don’t take reservations so you may have to wait in line for a table. That’s okay. Just go to the bar and get a drink and take it to the line with you!
